Meet Dr Meg Woodrow

GP, teacher and mum of two.

Despite all my medical training, becoming a parent was totally mind-blowing, and I realised how much of what matters most isn’t taught anywhere. Baby Steps GP is the course I wish my husband and I had taken: up-to-date, honest information that helps you make your own informed choices, with partners fully included and no sales pitch.

Becoming a mum, twice

When I was expecting our first baby, my husband and I went to a popular antenatal course together. With our background knowledge, we thought we’d be well prepared. We made some wonderful friends, but once our son arrived we faced so many challenges that nobody had talked us through.

Today I’m mum to that troublesome but beautiful boy, and to his baby sister. Going through pregnancy, birth and the newborn weeks a second time, this time with a toddler in tow, has given me an even fuller picture of what parents really need to know.

Through my research, training and lived experience, I’ve learnt how to navigate the challenges of early parenthood. Having my second child has made me more relaxed and the whole experience even more enjoyable, and it has given me a real perspective on what is, and isn’t, important. I’ve also picked up plenty of parenting tips and hacks along the way, and I’m looking forward to sharing them all with you.

Why I created Baby Steps GP

I wanted to create the course I wish we’d had: one that brings together up-to-date, evidence-based knowledge and the honest, real-life side of becoming a parent. It covers the things that really matter, from understanding your options in labour to the first weeks at home, so you can make informed choices that feel right for your family.

The education doesn’t stop at the birth, either. The course also supports you through the fourth trimester, those first months with your baby, and the challenges that come with them.

Partners are fully included in every session, because this is a journey you take together.

What I believe

Informed choices, not instructions

I share what the evidence says and help you understand your options, so you can make decisions that feel right for you.

Your care team are your advisers

My classes are education, not medical advice. For anything about your own health or your baby, your midwife, GP and maternity team are always the right people to speak to.

Partners matter

Partners are fully included, with time for their role, their questions and their own wellbeing.

Honest and independent

No sugar-coating and no sales pitch. I have no sponsorships, affiliate links or brand partnerships.

My promise to you

Small groups, so there’s always time for your questions. Sessions that are interactive, personal and enjoyable. And the chance to make great friends who are going through it at the same time, with a friendly, informal line to me for general questions afterwards.

It is my goal and passion that you leave feeling supported, prepared and more confident.

My background

My medical training is why the information I share is accurate and up to date. In class, I’m your teacher, not your doctor.

Dr Meg Woodrow

Since qualifying as a doctor in 2015, my junior doctor and GP training has included almost a year working in obstetrics and gynaecology. In 2019 I gained the Diploma of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (DRCOG), and in 2020 I qualified as a GP, which is my current role.

Before my medical training, I gained a BSc Hons in Sports Therapy and became a senior lecturer in anatomy and upper limb injury at the University of Chichester, which gave me a lifelong passion for teaching.
