Terms and Conditions

At Baby Steps GP, we understand that life can be unpredictable, especially during pregnancy and early parenthood. These terms explain how booking works and what happens if plans change. We’ve aimed to make them fair, flexible and clear.

They apply whenever you book a group course or 1-to-1 session with us. By booking, you agree to these terms, so please read them first. Sections 3 and 7 are the most important. If anything is unclear, just email us.

1. About us

All courses and sessions are designed and taught by Dr Meg Woodrow, a GMC-registered GP.

2. Our courses

Group courses are held in or near Ringwood, Hampshire, in small groups. Each course is made up of two teaching sessions of about 3 hours, plus an optional social session. Dates, times, venue and price are shown on our website when you book.

1-to-1 sessions are arranged individually. We agree the length, content, location (your home, a local venue or online) and price with you before booking.

We regularly review our course content to keep it accurate and up to date, so the exact content may change slightly from what is described on the website. The main topics will always be covered.

3. Education, not medical care

Our courses and sessions provide general, evidence-based education. Although Dr Meg is a doctor, attending a course or session:

  • does not make her your doctor;
  • is not a medical consultation, diagnosis or treatment; and
  • does not replace advice from your own midwife, GP, obstetrician or health visitor.

You remain responsible for discussing any medical concerns or decisions with your own healthcare team.

In an emergency, call 999. If you’re pregnant and worried about something (for example, bleeding, reduced baby movements or signs of labour), contact your maternity unit’s triage line straight away. Please don’t wait to raise it at a class.

The follow-up support included with your course is for general questions about what we covered. It is not a medical advice service, and replies may not be immediate.

4. Booking and payment

  • Payment is made in full at the time of booking.
  • Your booking is confirmed when we send you a confirmation email with your course dates, times and venue. Please keep it for your records.
  • The price of a group course covers you and one birth partner or companion.
  • Prices are in pounds sterling. No VAT is charged.
  • For 1-to-1 sessions, we’ll confirm the price and when payment is due when we arrange your session.

5. If we need to change or cancel a course

  • If we have to cancel a course (for example, because too few people have booked, or for reasons outside our control), you can choose a full refund or a place on another course.
  • If Dr Meg is unable to teach a session, for example because of illness, we’ll rearrange it. We won’t substitute another teacher without asking you first.
  • If we need to change a date, time or venue, we’ll let you know as soon as possible. If the change doesn’t suit you, you can choose a full refund for the affected sessions, or move to another course.
  • If circumstances such as severe weather or public health guidance mean a session has to move online, we’ll tell you in advance. If you’d rather not attend online, we’ll offer an in-person alternative where possible or refund that session.

6. Changing your booking

  • More than 6 weeks before your course starts: you can transfer to another course, if it has space, for a £25 administration fee.
  • Less than 6 weeks before your course starts: we’ll do our best, but a transfer can’t be guaranteed. If we can transfer you, the £25 fee applies, plus the difference in price if the new course costs more.
  • Once your course has started: transfers aren’t possible. However, see “If your baby arrives early or you’re unwell” below.

7. Cancellations and refunds

Your 14-day cooling-off period
You can cancel within 14 days of your booking confirmation for a full refund, as long as your course hasn’t started.
If your course starts within those 14 days and you cancel after the first session, we’ll refund the price minus a fair amount for the sessions already delivered.

After the cooling-off period

  • More than 6 weeks before your course starts: 75% refund.
  • Less than 6 weeks before your course starts: no refund. However, if another full-paying attendee takes your place, you’ll receive a full refund, and you’re welcome to suggest someone.
  • After your course has started: no refund for missed sessions.

If your baby arrives early or you’re unwell
We know babies don’t always follow the plan! Please contact us as soon as you can if:

  • your baby is born prematurely (before 37 weeks of pregnancy) or before your course finishes; or
  • a pregnancy or medical complication means you can’t attend. We may ask for a note from your midwife or doctor.
    In these situations, we’ll offer you either a place on a later course (or on the sessions you missed) at no extra cost, or a refund for the sessions you haven’t attended.

For any other exceptional circumstances, please get in touch. We’ll consider each situation individually and fairly.

1-to-1 sessions
You can cancel or rearrange a 1-to-1 session free of charge with at least 48 hours’ notice. With less notice, the full session fee is payable, unless your baby has arrived or you’re unwell, in which case we’ll always rearrange.

How refunds are paid
Refunds are made to the card or account you paid with, within 7 working days of the cancellation being agreed.

8. At the course

  • We aim to create a safe, inclusive and supportive space. Please treat everyone with respect.
  • Parents often share personal experiences in class. Please keep what others say in the group confidential.
  • Please tell us in advance if you, or your birth partner, have any access needs, health conditions or anything else that would help us support you. We’ll make reasonable adjustments.
  • Some sessions include practical activities, such as practising labour positions. Only take part as far as you feel comfortable, and follow any safety instructions we give.
  • If we identify a safety risk, we may change the format or location of a session.
  • We may ask anyone whose behaviour is disruptive or unsafe to leave, without a refund.

9. Course materials

Handouts and other course materials are protected by copyright. You’re welcome to use them for your own personal, non-commercial use. Please don’t copy, share, change or sell them without our permission.

10. Our responsibility to you

  • We will provide our courses and sessions with reasonable care and skill.
  • We are responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of us breaking these terms or failing to use reasonable care and skill.
  • We do not exclude or limit our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that the law does not allow us to exclude or limit.
  • Our courses are educational. Decisions about your care are made by you and your healthcare team, and we are not responsible for the outcome of those decisions.
  • We are not responsible for problems at a venue that are outside our control, such as the venue’s own facilities or access. We’ll always try to help if something goes wrong.
  • Apart from the above, our total liability to you is limited to the price you paid for the course or session.
  • Nothing in these terms affects your legal rights as a consumer.

11. Complaints and feedback

We want every family to have a great experience. If you have a concern or feedback, please email admin@babystepsgp.co.uk. We’ll acknowledge your message within 5 working days and aim to resolve any complaint within 14 days.

12. Your personal information

We look after your personal information as described in our Privacy Policy.

13. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. The terms that apply to your booking are the ones on our website at the time you booked.

14. Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you may also bring a claim in your local courts.
